About

The Illinois Student Journalist Association began as a solution to multiple challenges that have made Illinois the restrictive state with New Voices laws to be part of the student press. We hope to connect student reporters across the state, educate them about available legal protections and provide support when censorship arises.

Our Goals

1. Provide a platform where Illinois student journalists can ask for and share advice about reporting, censorship, career and more.

2. Educate student journalists and their advisers on what protections the student press has and lacks in Illinois.

3. Empower student journalists to push for student press freedom reform at every level, from their school boards to the state legislature.
